The Merton Heritage Service (MHS) is a valuable department within our local Council: a font of knowledge. It’s database is expanding as we write this and we would urge you to get involved and give it your take on life in Merton, specifically, on days gone by.
Below is a request from the MHS for our help in collating this information. Have a read and please click on the link and complete the survey.
Dear Sir / Madam,
Merton Heritage Service has recently been awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund grant to develop this two year project about Merton during the First World War. “Carved in Stone” will produce a range of resources to raise public awareness of Merton’s wartime heritage and increase access to historic resources. These will include local history exhibitions, school resource packs, class sessions and digital displays. We will also be creating online resources featuring the stories of local war combatants and details of life on the Home Front – from the role of women, war industries, charities and military hospitals, to the experiences of wartime refugees.
You can make the Carved in Stone project a success. By completing the online survey, you will help us to plan our work effectively and to make the best use of our funding. The survey is not intended as a test – it is designed to give us an idea of how much people know about Merton during the First World War and will help to focus our research, as well as pinpointing potential sources of information.
To complete the survey, simply click on the link shown below. It should take approximately 5 minutes to complete. To thank you for your participation, we are also offering you the chance to enter a prize draw for a framed canvas print, featuring an image of your choice from the Merton Memories photographic archive.
We are keen to get as many survey responses as possible from those who live, work or study in Merton – we would therefore be grateful if you could also forward the survey link to your friends, colleagues, society / club members.
Thank you in advance for your help with this matter.
